The Runaway Pancake!
After reading ‘ The Runaway Pancake ‘ the P1 children enjoyed weighing the ingredients and making fresh pancakes. They had fun experimenting with eggs. The children discovered that no matter how hard they pressed an egg between a finger and thumb, the egg did not break. They separated the white from the yolk and worked together to create a perfect gluten free pancake mix.
The children independently added favourite toppings from the wide range on offer. The children learnt that in the past people made pancakes to use up the eggs that were in the house. In the olden days people did not eat eggs during lent. Any eggs that hens laid during lent were hard boiled and rolled on Easter Sunday. It was from this tradition that Easter Eggs originated.
