As part of our topic about Chocolate Primary 4 have been investigating the effects that sugary drinks have on their teeth.
We set up an experiment with 4 hard boiled eggs and placed each one in a different liquid-water, orange juice, milk and coke. Each egg was placed in the same amount of liquid for the same amount of time to ensure that the test was fair. After a week we looked at the eggs and noted the changes that had occurred.
We found that the eggs placed in coke and orange juice had the most damaging effect on the shell-which is similar to the enamel on our teeth!! There was very little change to the egg placed in milk and no changes at all to the egg placed in water! We have learnt about the importance of brushing our teeth if we do consume sugary drinks and that water is the best drink that we can have throughout the day. 😀
