Can a potato work as a battery?

Thanks to Lauren McCann who gave Primary 7 a demonstration today of how a potato and a lemon can work as a power source for a clock.  In fact the energy readings for the potato (2.64) and the lemon (2.06) were higher than that of the battery she tested (1.55).  Great Science investigation Lauren, thanks for sharing!
